Legal problems are personal
A family case is not only a court file. It may decide where your child sleeps next week and whether you can keep the family home. A civil dispute may threaten a business built over twenty years. An immigration refusal may separate a family across an ocean. A criminal charge can place a career and reputation at risk overnight.
We do not treat those problems as forms moving through a system. We begin by listening. We identify the urgent issue, the evidence you have, the evidence you still need and the result that would make a real difference in your life.
Win without fighting
Sun Tzu wrote that the greatest victory is achieved without battle. In legal work, that means using judgment before force. A precise demand, early disclosure or a well-timed settlement meeting may solve a dispute faster than months of applications. That is often the better victory.
But settlement is not surrender. If the other side hides assets, ignores an agreement, refuses a fair solution or threatens your safety, court may be necessary. Then preparation matters. We organize the facts, test the evidence and focus the case on the issues the judge must decide.
When the facts cross borders
Many of our clients have family, property, businesses or immigration histories connected to more than one country. Evidence may be in Mandarin. Assets may be registered in China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. A witness may live overseas. A Canadian order may need to be understood alongside a foreign document or proceeding.
George Lee’s background in China and Canada helps the firm recognize the cultural and practical issues early. We advise on British Columbia and Canadian law. When foreign-law evidence or foreign counsel is required, we explain that need clearly and coordinate where appropriate.
